Need some help with convincing a coworker that astrology and psychics aren't real.
I work at a news station and astrology has been a reoccurring story for the past few days and a coworker and I started to discuss it. She has tattoo of her sign on her back and is pretty convinced that it's all real. I went directly into the basic argument that the position of the stars is different now than it was 2,000 years ago, so your sign you think you have is wrong. (Thanks Bill Nye) I also said that its just broad generalizations about people that almost everyone can relate too. (I brought up the Psy. experiment with the piece of paper with a description of a person given to a group of people that is completely the same and everyone said it described them perfectly.) But that still wasn't enough, she said that most days it was too spot on. Then we started to discuss psychics and palms readers. She said that she has seen that guy from, I think it's called Cross Over, where he "reads" people in the audience claiming to talk to the dead. I know South Park made fun of it once, so I basically said again thats its generalizations and he is bound to find something about someone. She again said that what he said was too specific to be chance and it wasn't just generalizations. Every site I go to about astrology and psychics pretty much says everything I have said to her. Is there anything I am missing that can help me convince her that it isn't factual or scientific? more
