Follow related website bookmark from Reddit: Buying a dog this weekend, need advice My girlfriend and I are looking to buy a dog from a breeder this weekend. I wanted to just go to the local humane society and pick one out but she wanted a specific breed so we're going to visit a breeder this weekend. I've never purchased a dog from anywhere but the pound, so I'm a little unsure over what to do and what to ask.
-Is it OK to ask for the pedigree? Is this something that they have to give me or is it just a complimentary thing from upscale breeders?
-Is there an easy way to check for problems like deafness or blindness? I've read that if a puppy is blind at birth it can be difficult to tell.
-I'm a little unsure about the shots, I think there are 3 shots required for puppies?? Is this something that a good breeder should have done already or is it on me to take it to a vet?
-Are there any questions that I should avoid asking, perhaps as it's bad etiquette? (I feel like pure bred dogs and breeders is a kind of high-brow thing and I usually just ask anything if I'm curious about it)
Any general advice would be much appreciated also.

Stranger 30: Stranger 30: This was a pretty though looking guy as he approached me with his dog by his side but I though that would make a pretty cool portrait with him and his dog together. So went for it and he was very friendly, didn't ask any questions just said were do you want to have me. Like that he and his dog were both looking strait at me.
