At least in my company the only way we would ever call you is if you filled out a survey and essentially sold yourself out for a gift card or an iPod. So now you've given out all your info and didn't read the fine print that states your gonna get harassed for eternity. So as far as I can tell in regards to the do not call list the way it works is you tell us to put you on it and in 30 days you're on it for a total of 5 years. The only exception is if you're doing business with a company and agree to let them contact you. So if you do one of those surveys every month you're just opting back in. I started off with basics - Coloring in coloring books folding origami out of Hershey's Miniatures wrappers some folks knitted drawing etc. And by the time I was an 'old timer' \(6 months in\) I was capable of pitching and answering questions while reading Cosmo. [I know my dad always acts as if the telemarketer calling is a person who my mom is "cheating on with" and he proceeds to tell them to stay away from his wife and that he has a pair of "the cheaters" underwear that was left. Every time he picked up he said "what's this about I thought you were looking to buy my used car" If I feel you're trying to prank me I'm delighted as long as its remotely humorous. I have let people know as they started their prank that I only have a limited time to listen to them so if this doesn't get really funny really quick I'm gonna hang up with them and they better have an act next time I call. That usually shuts down the group of junior high school students who thought they were being hysterical and they usually hang up in shame. At least 1000 times a day I hear that people can't talk because they're driving or at work but every once in awhile it's a teacher teaching a class at that very moment and even once I got a lady mad at me that I called her during a funeral. The first option is to opt out, which never works, and the second option is to speak to a representative. [For about a month and a half, I did phone banking for an organization connected to the AFL-CIO, encouraging people to vote for certain state propositions.
