Follow related website bookmark from Reddit: Hobbyist-level Swappable Camera Backs The Ricoh GXR is a joke. I'm not talking about that here. I'm talking about actual [swappable camera backs](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_camera_back) for medium or large format dSLRs. I'd like to see interchangeable sensors for hobbyists (or semi-pros, or whatever the hell you want to call yourself. If you're on /r/photography, you're probably at the level that I'm talking about). There are three types of sensor that I can think of; each one unique and built for a different purpose: * The regular, color sensor, exactly what we're doing now. Perhaps with two variations: lower res & faster fps (Like the Nikon D3S) vs. higher res & lower fps (Nikon D3X) * A black and white sensor, (no [Bayer filter](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayer_filter)), with a better dynamic range and high ISO performance than the color sensor, which can also takes infrared photos if you want to mess around with that. There's currently a [Medium Format Back](http://www.phaseone.com/en/Digital-Backs/Achromatic/Achromatic-plus-Technologies.aspx) like this. * A movie sensor. Purposefully built to take HD movies at (comparatively) low resolution, giving it high FPS. Take for instance the Casio EX-FH20BK EXILIM, a cheap ($229) camera, it only takes 9 megapixel photos, but it can take [1000 fps movies](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1xSa7gcYmU). (and take photos at 40fps) Anyone else got any ideas? Do any of you want to mess around with an unfiltered black+white sensor? Or take high speed movies with delicious SLR glass? more Related casio camera watch videos 2012-05-18:
