[Build Help] First time building. Suggestions?
NOTE: To the reader, you can just assume I know NOTHING about computers. I apologize if I start not making any sense while writing. As a first time builder, I am seeking aid of those who are willing to give it. I am not by any means a hardcore gamer, but in 2011 I started playing as many games as when I was a kid playing N64, and my current setup is really pathetic, as it cannot even run Skyrim at the lowest settings. It is about time I purchase a new computer, so the thought of building my own setup became an idea I have fostered. My aim is to be able to run games from the past I have yet to have the ability to play (The Witcher 2, Fallout NV, Arkham City to name a few) at the highest settings, and have the same ability for the games to come in 2012 (Mass Effect 3 and Bioshock Infinite come to mind). For those who are willing to help, I can inform you that money is not a real issue, but I would like to keep the budget under $2000. CPU: My main/first concern. I have always had Intel, so I easily found the popular i5-2500K. I also saw the i7-2600K. I was quite curious about the $100 difference between the both, when superficially the difference is just 0.1 GHz. Through my research, I found the i5-2500K is better for gaming, but when overclocked. As the ignorant I am, I tried to comprehend what overclocking is, and personally did not like the idea. Perhaps I am over-reacting, but I would like to keep it as simple as possible, without worrying about overheating, or other matters. So that brought me to square one. Is there a real reason I should pay $100 more for the i7-2600K? CPU Cooler: Do I need one? Should I have one spare in case something goes wrong? Video Card: I had no idea where to go as far as video cards go. I started looking at the GeoForce because it had the coolest name, and I saw one with good reviews and 1 GB, which seemed nice to me. Memory: Recommended by a friend, and saw it had great reviews. Compared to other builds I have browsed, it seemed fair. Hard Drive: 1TB seemed too much for me, so I decided to go with 500 GB. Power Supply: I think 600W is good enough, but a friend recommended more. Thoughts? Optical Drive: Should I bother with a complex drive? I don?t plan on writing CDs or anything. Keeping it simple. Keyboard: Is it worth it getting a gaming keyboard for someone that isn?t looking to focus on online gaming? As long as it doesn?t bother me while doing real work, I don?t mind having one, I?d just like input on that, as I could as well just inherit my old keyboard. Monitor: I have a 21?? HDMI monitor.
