Although I posted a similar picture over a year ago, I thought I'd repost this "hidden treasure" I captured from my recent trip because I think I improved over the original. This is a much tougher shot than it looks, unless you use a tripod. This Mr. Toad statue is pretty far back in the "pet cemetery", it's dark since it is so deep in the "woods" and it's not very big either, which means you have to use a pretty lengthy telephoto and a high ISO and steady hand if you want to get a close-up. Which is what I did here. Used the longest telephoto I have (300mm (450mm equiv)), raised the ISO to 1600 and still was only able to use 1/30 at the max f/5.6. It's situations like this that the VR technology REALLY helps.
I went the easy way out on editing here. RAW conversion done in Picassa (freeware), then imported to PhotoScape (freeware) where I adjusted levels, added some film effects and vignetting, and lastly sharpened and sharpened some more. The "grain" you see is not added. It is actually noise from sharpening. I actually liked the "grain" look on this photo so I left it alone.
I'm open to all constructive criticism good or bad on the pictures from this recent trip. I thought more about composition and exposure on this trip than I ever have and really took some time to set up most of my shots. I figure maybe a little constructive criticism will hopefully help to advance my skills as a photographer. So if you've got a second and you see something about the photo that you like or don't like, don't be afraid to speak up!

Photos comments: Trapac: Aw thanks.... I don't think this angle was as successful as I'd envisaged when taking the shot, but I do like the tones and textures. It's amazing the colour range of this xpro Astia. On some of them the under exposure makes it 'in your face' fuschia in a completely maniacal psychotic other-world kind of way; but then shoot it on a beach in the middle of a reasonably overcast day, but with reflected light popping about all over the place, and you get this lovely muted colour shift.
