My newest animated spec pilot: let's hear your thoughts! (no script to read, just information)
This is an animated show geared more towards the Adult Swim style. I've never done anything with blatant sex, drug, and race jokes, so I'm giving it a shot. It's about the "Home Motel," the shittiest motel in a town full of motels because the town is only known for it's amazing amusement park. When you grow up here you end up working for the park or for a motel or hotel. Who's in it? Here's a quick list of characters: Mark, white guy in his early thirties who inherited the hotel when his father died. He's cool, laid, back, and enjoys not having to work too hard. There's someplace he'd rather be, but for now, this is workin' out. (Still figuring this out, more on that at the end) Freddie, the black, racist, and enthusiastic front desk assistant and bellhop. Bellhop, at a motel? Yeah. Sharon: Mark's friend from childhood, 'cept now she's a prostitute with a better business model than Starbucks. What other prostitute offers a stamp card? Eighth one, free! Mark lets her use a room as her home base for a discount rate. Detective Grundleson: Another regular at the motel, he's in town to investigate a murder, and the force would only pay for his lodgings if it were really shitty. George: A suicidal old janitor who hates himself more than he hates his job. Virgil: The kitchen guy who considers himself a chef but all he really does is put cheerios in those tubes with the twisty handle. Lupe and Maria: Two of the three maid staff. Mexican immigrants who don't speak english. Maria is perpetually pregnant. Germaine: The third maid, she's Vietnamese. Lost her job at the nail place because she was stealing nail files and using them to make popsicles. (Mark has a thing for her but she has no idea). The pilot episode introduces all of these characters while they deal with the fact the serial killer that is on the loose miiiiiight have just checked in. I'm looking to make this crazy and weird. Any first impressions, flashes of insight, etc, that you think of would be great! I've also been struggling a little with Mark's character. I tried him as the super-enthusiastic "I want my motel to run the best it can" guy with a temper when you piss him off but it wasn't funny. more
