We are under assault, what should we do?
This is my first post ever on Reddit but I want to say a few words where someone can read it. Today we have seen our first amendment die. Today we have seen with startling confirmation that the 1% have at their disposal an armed army which will bow to their will regardless of morality. Regardless of your political views what has occurred in Zucotti Park this morning should be anathema to you. The rights we cherish most are under assault this isn't about rich, poor, left wing, right wing, 99%, 1%, or even 53% this is about standing up and saying collectively with one great shout, "We will not allow you to suppress our rights." The NYPD has used the guise of a "Cleanup operation" to attempt to illegally dislodge the Occupy Wall St. movement. They will be allowed to return, but may not bring with them tents, sleeping bags, or tarps. Why didn't we see this earlier? Because, now they can kill the movement with the cold. Tonight I watched black helmeted officers in riot gear throw books into the trash in America. I have never been so disgusted or disappointed with my nation, oh, how far we have fallen. So where do we go from here? What do we do? Liberty Park will belong to the movement once more, but for how long? Do we have the wherewithal to die for this movement? Will we freeze to death to demand change? So here it is, a list of goals the thing they claim we do not have: 1. Reinstatement of Glass-Stegall. A banking institution that accepts my money and is also insured by my tax dollars should never be allowed to gamble that money away in frivolous risky investments for their own profit. 2. We must end corporate personhood and limited liability for management. Management are directly responsible for the well being of a company and should be held both criminally and civilly liable for the acts of the entity they are responsible for. 3. We must limit campaign contribution to persons, and then no more than 1,000 dollars. Money is not speech, we must never allow ourselves to be disenfranchised again. 4. All media conglomerates shall divest themselves of news affiliates and shall be disbarred from ownership thereof. 5. We demand the right to recall politicians at a national level, from representative to president. We want our sovereignty back, please don't make us take it by force. 6. Lobbying is bribery of a public official and shall be punished as such. 7. Last but not least, an organization that is to serve the public trust will be disbarred from accepting donations from any organization. Their funding shall come only from taxpayer dollars. Are these all of the goals of this movement? No. Are these all the goals that are good ideas? No. This movement has goals, this movement has popular support, and most importantly this movement desires nothing more than to peacefully reclaim our agency. To that end, occupiers, it is time that we form our own political mechanism. We must choose representatives from within our own ranks. We must choose wisely from city, to state, to national. We must run for office and we must take this nation over one seat at a time. We will not stand for this anymore, it is time to leave the parks of America and time to march on Washington as representatives. Will it be quick? No. Will it be easy? No. We must be committed to this for the next decade, or more. We will not receive relief in the short term, our "representatives" have failed us they have accepted the bribes offered. They have sold our nation out to forces that wish to use us only to create it's products and poisons, forces that wish to put us on a debt treadmill for the rest of our lives, forces that export our jobs, destroy our opportunities, and then call us lazy and entitled.
