Follow related website bookmark from Reddit: Does anyone else actually prefer an on-rails type-of-game to an open world game? **edit**: Sorry, I don't mean on-rails like a House of the Dead game... but rather just a linear game like Half-Life 2.
All the talk these days is about open-world games, but I've never really got into them. I mean, I like the *idea* of an open world game, but the games never seem as solid as games that are on-rails. I think with an on-rails game the AI is always going to act more realistically because... well, it's scripted. In games like Oblivion or Fallout 3 you always seem to be fighting with the AI, trying to get it to behave as a actual person would, which I think eventually leads to the immersion being lost.
Now, I don't think *all* games should be linear. In mean, I couldn't even imagine a GTA game without an open world. But I think games should stop trying to let you "choose your own adventure" and just give you a solid linear gameplay experience. Maybe once the AI improves, open-world games will be better, but not now. Give me a game like Bioshock, God of War, or one of the many linear RPGs out over an open-world game any day. more

Board games, do people still play them much?
As a child, I have fond memories of them, from Ludo and Snake & Ladders to Cluedo and Trivial Pursuit. But with the vast amount of tech available to us, there seems to be less and less focus on physical board games these days.
Monopoly was always a favourite of mine. The excitement first started by selecting your silver metal token which, in the British version, could be anything from a Top Hat to an Old-Style Boot. Then you received your cash, £1,500, all nicely colour-coded and ready to be exchanged.
Landing on one of the the high-stake properties, Mayfair/Park Lane/Bond St., with the prospect of cleaning your opponent out with multiple red hotels was an exciting one and we would play for hours, with our own house rules, in an effort to increase the total amount of time spent playing.
No one really knew when the game was supposed to end, I?m still not that sure now. But theoretically it could go on for hours, it seemed an unreachable condition. In most cases, we?d get bored or have to go and do something else so there was no clearly defined end, not that it mattered, we had fun and that was the main goal.

The composition is ok, but that is what you get when trying to snap it really quick without her noticing.
Sorry flickr I have not been posting at all. My new mac died.....I could not believe it. I am one of the few in the world that has had a brand new mac die in a week. But they sent me a new one and it works wonderfully so far. On top of that and coming back to university I just have not got out to shoot much. But today I am going to go takes some pictures. Super excited!
