Whenever I'm working through a language course, once in a while I skip, let's say, 10 or 20 lessons and listen to the audio/try to read the text a few times. Most of the time I have no idea what's going on there.
When I continue with my regular schedule and progress through the course, I eventually reach that lesson, understand most of it, and because I remember not having a clue what it's about, it gives me a tremendous motivational boost.
Works for me, YMMV.
