About a month ago my fiancee and I decided that I should get serious and do something about my weight. I hadn't weight/been weighed in quite some time but I knew that I was around the 140kg mark. I knew about a year prior I had been weighed at the doctors at my max known weight of 142kg (313lbs). I'm 5'11" so quite overweight. An obese BMI.
We set up and appointment to go and talk to my doctor (GP) about weight loss options. His opinion was that diets didn't work, lipid restricting drugs like Xenical were a nightmare unless you could sit on the toilet all day and my only option was to have a stomach stapling/banding surgery. Despite the fact that surgery would cost me in excess of $15000, I told him I thought of it as a last ditch effort and would like to try other options first. I'm sure he probably wasn't happy about that but prescribed me an appetite suppressant at my request and sent me on my way. His nurse however was awesome, enrolled me in what is known as a 'green prescription' and gave me a bunch of leaflets about diet choices etc and enrolled me in another program called 'careplus'. A green prescription is basically a mentoring program, they pass your details onto the sporting organization who phone you up and follow your progress, give you advice on activity and exercise that will suit you and give you some discounts on some of the gyms/pools so you can get into using them. It only lasts for 4 months but it's a good help out for the start. Careplus is a program where I can go and see my doctors nurse once every three months for free (awesome). You have to meet criteria and being overweight is apparently one.
So that was almost one month ago (27 days) on the 19th of October I weighed in at 135.7kg(299lbs).
Today (15th November) I went back for a followup appointment to talk through how I've been going with my planned exercise and diet and a weigh in. I weighed in at 128.3kg (283lbs) a loss of 7.4kg (16lbs). WOOT!
Also, I've decided to use the last of my prescription of appetite suppressants (Duromine/Phentermine 30mg) because for 30 pills it was costing me $77 and I don't feel they're actually doing anything for me. If I find out after coming off them they were, I guess I can fork out the cash and go back on them. (4 pills remaining from my prescription)
So yeah, that's my little success story for loseit, I hope to continue in this fashion.
Does anyone have any advice?
What should my goal weight be? (I figure probably about 100kg)
Anyone had any experience with appetite suppressants?
Any ideas for very low calorie snacks or interesting low cal meals options? (some protein and steamed vegetables for the majority of evening meals gets to wear thin)

Let me speak a moment to explain this picture, why I took it, etc.
I've recently been working on losing weight. The tape measurer I had on hand tonight because I took my measurements today (sigh, big [depressing] mistake). Anyways, this picture is kind of an ode to my weight loss endeavors.
Let me also say that though there are magazines in the background, it was a style choice more than anything. I don't actually blame the media for anything. I don't feel bad about myself, or unsatisfactory, because of the images I see on TV, magazines, or films. I feel bad about myself because I am overweight. And I don't mean depressed-feeling-bad-about-myself, I just mean I want to be healthy. I think this is what every person should strive for.
I am the only one who made myself this way and so I'm the only person I can hold responsible for that. I'm not the fat girl who hates skinny chicks! To be honest, it really annoys me that people who are overweight/obese adopt a 'big is beautiful' motto. This isn't to say I don't want them to have confidence (I do! No one should have low self esteem!), this isn't to say you have to be a size 0, or 2, or 4, or 6, or even 8 to be dubbed 'beautiful.' However, I don't think it's safe that we disguise our poor choices by giving them a powerful title.
Like I said before, I just think people should always think about their health.
It's the most important thing :)
