Breaking News: Marie colvin

2012/05/16 As colleagues salute marie colvin, recent losses cast a pall over war correspondents
The dress code for the memorial service was bright colors and, for women, pearls -- hardly funereal, but then, the person being remembered, American journalist Marie Colvin, was hardly a conformist. Nearly three months after Colvin was killed while covering the battle raging in the besieged Syrian city of Homs, some 500 people gathered Wednesday at London's St. Martin's in the Fields Church to ...

I've decided to write in to my Member of Parliament.
Hi r/atheism, I've decided to write in to my MP pertaining to the Syrian crisis. What do you think? March 5, 2012 Dear Member of Parliament, I come to you with no selfish requests -- I do not ask for better health benefits; I do not ask for upgrades to my estate; I do not ask for financial support for my education. Rather, I ask that our government involve itself in the ongoing Syrian crisis in the form of humanitarian aid. As I?m sure you?re well aware, the situation has become dire; Syrian security forces have begun targeting civilians, foreign journalists and various other non-combatants. Summary executions have been performed not only on men, but on women and children as well. A woman fleeing from Homs told a BBC reporter that soldiers had slit the throat of her 12-year-old son. One soldier held down his head while another killed him. Opposition and human rights activists have said security forces and pro-government militia have been rounding up men and boys over the age of 14 who are still in the Baba Amr district of Homs, and then torturing and killing them. Just a few weeks ago, Marie Colvin, an American journalist, was killed when a makeshift media centre was shelled by government forces. And as if to further strain the situation, electricity, water and communications have been cut off. In recent days, temperatures have plummeted, snow has fallen and food supplies are said to be dangerously low. Why were we so eager to help out in the questionable Iraq and Afghanistan wars -- even sending in support troops -- but seem to be so apathetic to an obvious violation to the sanctity of life? Of course, we are a small nation, but we have so much to offer to the less fortunate. These people are no different from you and I. They have brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers. The only difference is that they may have lost someone dear due to the extreme acts of violence brought upon them. Send them help. Blankets, food, medicine, anything. If the international community does not act soon, I fear that in a few years, we will all view this event as another Darfur and wonder why we didn?t do more to stop the genocide. Lastly, I may not believe in an omnipotent god, but I do believe in an underlying good that resides in all of our hearts. I hope you, and your fellow colleagues, find yours soon. Signed, me more

Intelligencesquaredom the Intelligence2 dission "What to do about Syria?", which took place at the Tabernacle on 2nd April 2012. In this "impromptu" Intelligence² debate, we addressed the big question of the moment: what to do about Syria? If you do nothing, say the interventionists, you'll repeat the sins of Rwanda and Srebrenica. You'll be guilty of standing aside and letting thands of people whom you could have saved be massacred. If you wade in, say the anti-interventionists, you'll simply intensify and widen an already inflammatory conflict in which there are no good guys or bad guys, t guys who hate each other andmit atrocities on both sides. To examine the implications of the crisis for Syria and beyond we brought together a panel of experts each presenting a different viewpoint. Guardian columnist Jonathaneedland was in the chair and speakers included Paul Conroy, the photographer who was injured in the blast that killed journalist Marie Colvin in Homs.
Marie Colvin, great journalist and war-correspondent, died in February. She was gunned down covering the siege of Homs. Interviewing a dead subject is difficult, as are chats with those who lived with and loved that subject -- both were off the table. (In this case, not simply off, but so farom our humble table as to barely merit consideration.) But it was a story we wanted to tell, so I cobbled this package together.

LETTER FROM EUROPE; The Phone-Hacking Scandal Should Not Taint All Journalists
LONDON — As Britons navigate the unrelenting judicial inquiry into phone hacking and related scandals of the press, the temptation has arisen — even more than usual in this journo-phobic land — to tar all reporters with the dark and glutinous brush associated with those in Rupert Murdoch’s tabloid empire accused of voice

As war correspondent Marie Colvin, who was killed last month in Syria, is laid to rest on Long Island, New York, Reuters correspondent Anthony De Rosa talks with two citizen journalists who escaped Syria only days after Colvin was killed. William Gagan and Geoff Shivley share how the technology that allowed them to live stream their escape over the Turkish border also put their lives at extreme risk. (See Faire Notice Below) Marie Colvin and her partner Remi Ochlik were killed in a civilian dwelling. I believe very strongly that there is more to this than meets the eye. Marie claimed, shortly before her death in an interview on CNN, that civilian buildings were being targeted. My question is by who and why? The Syrian government? Or, someone behind the scenes orchestrating for the Syrian government? In order to make it look so bad that people will demand the do something. Create the chaos, thene in and restore the order. It's an old trick and is still beinged. Ordo Ab Chao is the Motto of those at high levels. Those who feel they are divine and have a certain bloodline that they hold dear. A bloodline that goes back to the Pharaoh's of Egypt and further. The hidden hand behind all this. Haven't we seen enough children die? Enough children lose their parents? I myself have, and am going to try like hell to get to the bottom of it all as should all of. Don't believe the crap they feed you in the main stream. Very seldom do you hear truth onworks owned by this very people with agendas. I'm tired of this and you should be too. Whether you see the suffering or not, you still feel it and don't even realize it. This is bece we are all connected as a HUMAN RACE. I truly believe who ever is orchestrating this is not of this race. The veil is lifting and the light ising in to reveal the dirt. Ordo Ab Chao: tinyurl Red Dawn ...
