I changed jobs two months ago. At the time, I was debating between competing offers from two companies. I eventually settled on the lower-paying offer because I liked the company environment and people so much.
Since then, I've found the job is not as great as I thought it would be. It's enjoyable, but not the amazing experience I was hoping for.
On Friday, I got a call from a recruiter, with a job that would pay about 60% better when factoring in basepay and benefits.
I'm *very* tempted to go for the job. But I'm very concerned about changing jobs so quickly; I don't want to develop a reputation as being "mercenary."
Background on me:
- BSME from a top 5 engineering school.
- MSME from a top 20 engineering school.
- 5+ years experience as an engineer.
My current job is a small company (20ish employees). It has growth potential, but I'm unlikely to make anywhere *near* the compensation I'd make at the new job in the next 5 years. The environment is great and the people are great, but the work isn't that engaging.
The second job is a massive conglomerate, at a division with about 100 engineers and 50 non-engineering personnel. The work would probably be about as interesting. My coworkers probably wouldn't be as fun, but I've worked at companies with a stricter culture, so I think I'd get along fine.
There is no chance of the smaller company giving me an improved compensation package - and definitely not to the level of the other company. They're a very small company with very limited resources.
Should I stick with the small company? Move to the higher paying company? If I move, what would be the most graceful way to handle being a "cut and run" employee after just 2 months? And how would this look to future employers? more

But with increasing economic pressures, the plastics manufacturer has melted down. About 100 employees received news Monday that, come Tuesday, they're not needed.
Oil prices are a major factor, since all plastics are petroleum based. Vice President Robert Orlaske says their buyers weren't willing or able to match the bottom line.
?We had to pass on price increases to our customers, and a lot of them wouldn?t take it, so they shopped other places for moving their work. And a lot of them have chosen to go to China or Mexico where the labor is a lot cheaper,? Orlaske tells NewsCenter 16.
The company says they'll do all they can for the people who've labored for them. They'll hold meetings with their employees this week to help them find new jobs and get them job training.
Company leaders are in negotiations to sell the Coloma plant. If the sale goes through, it's likely that most if not all of the current employees at that plant will keep their jobs.
