We have arrived at Beaklabors, set upon the edge of a great forest we spied the hematite veins from the onset, and immediately began digging straight down. Our mountainhome had been good to us, supplying us with war dogs, a few pieces of metal equipment, and a large supply of pigs for food. On the way to our new home we found a tame horse wandering the forest, we decided to bring her along as well. During excavation our miners became trapped many times as our initial designs for a spiral rampcase weren't planned thoroughly. Upon our journey downward we first hit large veins of gold, already having our iron secured this seemed like the best place to set up our dining hall and general work areas. Knowing that our outpost liaison would be arriving in the Fall we decided to begin crafting mugs out of the gold, being it was a soft workable metal perfect for our crafts. We did not waste time turning it into bars, we didn't have time. A bit further down we hit marble, a fantastic sign, and a blessing to our industry. We knew magma would be deep, but we didn't realize how deep it would be. It seemed all hope was lost when we ran into semi-molten rock at the end of our rampcase. A bit afterwards during the clearing of our path we breached a huge cavern, seemingly devoid of life, but with a large tube of magma allowing the miners to confirm the presence of Adamantine. We have heard creatures may roam these deep areas but as of yet we've seen nothing stirring. We walled it off just in case. It seemed we had an easy access to magma now, so we began excavating our magma smelters. One of our miners went missing, but the smoke and magma flowing below where our ramps had been were a good sign we'd never see Limul again. We rethought our plans and our magma smelters and forge were set up, after the magma had finished flowing, we began planning our production. The trade caravan came, we bought nearly everything we could think of, our mugs made of native gold fetched a high price, and a migrant trader helped us to secure great deals. We began steel production, a few pieces of armor, weapons, and a couple of iron chains have been made for our war dogs to stand guard at our gates, as the thieves have been plenty, the first managing to breach far into our home before he was discovered. The possibility of evil has awakened our need to form an army, to fight whatever may come. We crafted a weapon stand out of native gold, and placed it near the surface, hopefully the gleam will attract the kobolds, and the gleam of our steel will ensure they never leave. Winter came, snow began falling on the mountain, granted it was too warm for it to stay, it was still a beautiful sight as many of us had never seen a snowstorm such as this before. Spring is coming, and according to our liaison, so are many new challenges. The rumors of goblins have us all a bit on edge, but as far as our scouts have seen, they don't have the ability to refine iron to steel as we do. Let's hope that this gives us the upper hand. Perhaps when we've mastered our smithing skills, we'll mine the Adamantine to see if the legends are true about it's properties as a blade. This is only the beginning. Let us pray for a glorious end.
