*Dr. Eaton of the Congo*
"Dr. Eaton was an archaeologist, and a zoologist, fascinated with artifacts and animal species.
He decided to visit the Congo, which was under British imperialism at the time, to see ancient ruins and new animal species
Eaton decided to go on a 40-mile hike across the Congo, observing all the interesting things he could find.
After the first 10 miles of the hike, he was super excited.
It was very tiring, but he had found so many new species and artifacts, so he continued, hoping to find more.
After 20 miles, things started to get repetitive and tiring.
He seemed to be seeing alot of the same animals, and the sun was only getting hotter
Eaton considered turning back, but he looked at how hard he had walked the 20 miles to get here, and decided he should finish and maybe discover something more.
Plus, he didn't want to walk the 20 hard miles to get back and make no new discoveries.
So Eaton continued, for another 10 miles
After the 30th mile, Eaton was tired, and bored.
He couldn't tell whether he was bored of seeing the same animals over and over again, or whether they were actually new species but they just didn't seem interesting anymore. Eaton wanted to go back home, back to Britain where life was neither boring nor tiring.
The fatigue of 30 miles and the thought of having to travel those same 30 miles to get back scared him though.
So he decided, if he could handle 30, then he can handle the last 10 to complete the trip,
even though he was not only extremely tired, but had stopped being interested in the Congoian animals and artifacts.
So he continued, and finished those 40 miles
Looking back, he realized that those species were not that interesting all along, and he had gotten tired for nothing.
So he made a new discovery or two, but he could have easily made new discoveries on a sea voyage to the Galapagos, or on a trip to some other less physically demanding location.
Or he could have just as easily stayed in Britain, and drank his tea every day at 3pm.
But no, his own foolishness led him to embark on this 40 mile trek that went nowhere.
And so he retired back to Britain, tired and bored of life in general.
